The eight seeded Ukrainian, Elina Svitolina faced the Czech, Karolina Muchova who previously played a marathon match against her compatriot, Karolina Pliskova in the fourth round of Wimbledon Championships 2019.
It was Muchova’s first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal match and both of the WTA women were rattling with their racquets to enter their first ever semifinal at a Grand Slam event. Elina Svitolina defeated Muchova 7-5, 6-4 and reaches her first major semifinal at Wimbledon. She will face Simona Halep in the last four round.
In the first set, the ladies traded breaks. The 22-year-old, Karolina Muchova led by 4-1 but Elina Svitolina bounced back to stay in the first set. At 5-5, there was a prolonged game was followed by a series of deuces.
The women displayed some sensational tennis on the net and Svitolina’s dry volleys aided her to serve for the set. Elina Svitolina found her grooves on the tennis court and battled past her Czech opponent and held the first set in 48 tough minutes.
After trailing by a break of serve in the second, Elina Svitolina balanced out the setback at 2-2. She breezed to take a 5-2 lead and then she was serving for a place in the semifinals, but the Czech sensation broke her to stay in the match at 5-3. Extending her stay in the quarterfinal by two more games, Svitolina sealed her first ever semifinal spot in a major.
“It feels amazing, but I try to don’t think so much about it anymore as I was trying to not think so much about that I couldn’t get the win before in quarterfinals. So the tournament continues,” Svitolina said. “I think I learned to be patient because I had lots of tough matches in the quarterfinal. Few of them was very unlucky, I was not fit 100%.”
