The ongoing battle of Microsoft with FTC does not look to be ending soon. The legal proceedings came to an expected conclusion after the judge denied FTC’s preliminary injunctions. The expected closure of the deal would mark an assertive dominance of Microsoft in the console industry. The decision marked a historic victory for Microsoft as it came a step closer to acquiring Activision Blizzard. But in interesting turns of events, the legal rift has moved to another chapter.

Microsoft planned to acquire the Call of Duty makers for $68.7 billion. But the acquisition process was barricaded by The American Trade Commission. The completion of the massive deal could lead to a revolutionary turnaround for CoD players. The opposition left no stone unturned to tarnish the deal. Although, as the case moved to a conclusion, the allegations turned out weak. Now, amidst the celebrations of Microsoft’s legal victory, FTC has decided to move to court again.

FTC Confirms Appeal Against Microsoft After Judgement

The Trade Commission rejected the pseudo conclusion. The organization has confirmed its next move to be a cross-appeal against the judgment. It would hence give another chance to FTC to convince the appeals court that the ruling was incorrect. But because of a restraining order that will end on Friday, July 14, Microsoft will be free to proceed and complete the transaction this weekend barring an extension from the appeals court.

Brad Smith, the president of Microsoft, criticized the strategies of FTC to hamper the trade. “We’re disappointed that the FTC is continuing to pursue what has become a demonstrably weak case, and we will oppose further efforts to delay the ability to move forward,” the latter quoted in an interview with the Verge. He further claimed the organization is in all readiness to face forthcoming legal challenges. The head also emphasized the need for the merger for the benefit of the community.

The judge had earlier briefed the gaming community about the advantages of the deal. For obvious reasons though, the deal doesn’t sit well with Microsoft’s primary rival Sony. PlayStation fans have already speculated a massive move of traffic from the platform if the acquisition is successful. 

The new twist has already sparked some interesting speculations around the delay of the acquisition. While the celebrations were put on hold by the appeal, Microsoft would want to get over the legal formalities as soon as possible.
