With Starfield having hundreds of worlds to explore, it was only natural that Earth was included. However, what version of Earth fans got to see, was left to be seen. Once players got the game, some had hoped to see the post-apocalyptic Earth from Fallout join the game. It could have been the start of a Bethesda verse. It is not uncommon to see this in games. In one instance, Ubisoft had a character from Assassin’s Creed show up in Watch Dogs. While it was not a major plot point, fans still appreciated the small nod to a classic game.

Howard went on to reveal there was a conversation within his team about making it happen. In the end, it did not happen, because of a variety of issues. In addition to the timelines not fitting together, the team ran into troubles with the pandemic hitting.

Working from home made things incredibly difficult, slowing down the entire process. In a bid to make the whole process easier and not compromise on the quality, devs chose not to make the crossover happen. Besides, with both of the games’ themes working differently, perhaps it was for the best.

Some people speculated the reason behind this was Starfield being an exclusive. As many people might know, Microsoft acquired Starfield’s parent company in order to keep PlayStation from making it an exclusive. Because of this, fans felt the game got review-bombed, even before it was released. Once the game was released, it received a lot of praise from both fans and critics, going on to be one of the most successful Xbox titles of all time.
