What exactly happened before Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

In Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link awakens from a deep sleep as a voice calls to him. He walks out of his tomb and finds Hyrule surrounded by wilderness and weird monsters. If that was not enough, there was no friendly face to be seen, and Link had no memory of what was going on.

Eventually, the voice of Princess Zelda reminds him of what happened 100 years ago. In the Kingdom of Hyrule, Calamity Ganon is about to be revived. Princess Zelda, aided by four champions, each from a different tribe of Hyrule, and Link, a champion equipped with a powerful sword, tries to stop Ganon.
