Nintendo never shied away from experimenting with creating new technology. A great example is the Switch console, which offers a handheld or home console experience. However, some experiments were disastrous, which the majority have forgotten. But they still exist, although mostly as collectible showpieces.

This Japanese giant has developed several odd gaming equipments like the robot R.O.B or the U-Force controller. Another weird yet unique accessory that Nintendo created was the Reality Quest Glove. It was made for their Nintendo 64, famously known as the N64 console.

It could have become a revolutionary item, as gamers could play video games one-handed. But, this console failed to make an impression on the market and got lost in time. Most gamers these days might not even have heard about it. But those who do know will love to have this rare item in their fan collection.

Recently, a video went viral on the internet where an employee at a retro video game store, DKoldiesm, showcased this rare N64 controller. Some avid Nintendo fans might want to visit the store in hopes of buying it, but it’s out of stock. It’s not an easy find cause Nintendo only made 10,000 to 50,000 N64 Reality Quest Gloves.

Why did this Nintendo 64 controller fail to impress the masses?

This N64 controller failed because of its different design. As the name suggests, it was a glove you wore on your hand. In one way, this controller was great for those people with disabilities. Thanks to its limited hand moment requirements, it was a boon for players with lower body paralysis. However, it favored the right-handed people, as the design was for the right hand.

To use this controller, players had to strap this on their right hand and then place their hand on a plastic mitt that has the original N64 buttons. Moreover, this device uses a gyroscope to move your in-game character.

However, many players complained about the difficulty in using it. The users further complained about a poor response time from this Reality Quest Glove. And it used to wear out fast. Nintendo really had produced one of the groundbreaking products back in the day. We could have witnessed a whole different outcome had the practicality been as resounding as what they initially wanted to implement.
