Despite the record-breaking release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 in 2022, the series has somehow failed to impress the majority of players so far. Even those, who have been loyal to the franchise. At least, that’s what the situation has been like for the past few months. Many people have already claimed that the action franchise is nearly dead. Simply because it lacks the appeal it had a few years ago.

Moreover, the dwindling number of players has been the main cause of several fans assuming that the series is done and dusted. And the recent figures for Steam are not painting a good picture either. It looks like both Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 are failing to engage  fans.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 player count dips under 90,000 for the first time

Upon the reveal of Season 1 in November last year, MWII and Warzone 2 succeeded to reach a peak figure of 488,897 concurrent players. However, the numbers fell down faster than one’s expectations within the next few weeks only. And now, after four months, the overall situation seems to be miserable for the two titles.

Going by the latest data for Steam, it looks like Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 are failing to sustain their player base. Despite the release of Season 2 and the mid-season update in March 2023, the two games have already lost a lot of active players.

According to SteamCharts, the average player count for MWII as well as Warzone 2 fell poorly this month. For the first time, the two titles only had 88,367 concurrent players for a period of 30 days. Which means that now they can’t even manage to have a decent figure of close to 100,000 active monthly users.

What’s interesting to note is that SteamCharts only account for PC players on the Steam platform. However, it’ still a bad news for the overall franchise. The other platforms might be witnessing similar results, if one has to make assumptions.
