Everyday gaming dose can be attained from various places and Twitch continues to find a place on the list. The streaming platform allows fans and viewers to connect with their favorite content creators and watch them as they ace through various games. The experience also somehow enables like-minded people to connect with one another via chat, and the purple platform added the ‘Friends’ feature.

This functionality enabled users to add and send whisper (messages) to one another on the platform. Users can basically turn the streaming website into a social place with this feature. But unfortunately, the developers have deemed its feature as a failure with only a’ few users’ making active use of it.

Twitch offered a final statement to confirm the removal of the social feature

The purple platform in a statement stated that things have not gone the way they had intended them to. The ‘friends’ feature was merely an attempt to bring the community a lot closer and offer them a means to connect with each other. Users could see each other online, interact with one another and build a community of their own, but this experiment backfired sadly enough.

In a statement posted on its official website, Twitch stated its reason for taking it down.

“We launched Friends to help viewers connect with one another, similar to the connections between creators and viewers. Today, we see the best viewer-to-viewer connections on Twitch happen when we experience live moments together on a creator’s channel, with very few viewers regularly using Friends to actively connect with each other. By deprecating this feature, we are able to further focus on building connections among communities while streamers are live.”

This feature will be removed from both the website and mobile from May 15 & 25, respectively. Moreover, users who have people on their blocked list will forever be barred from ever sending you messages. Lastly, the removal of this feature will also limit the user’s ability to view the activity status of their friends.
