Tom Nook is a non-playable but essential character in every Animal Crossing game. In New Horizons, he acts as the leader of the deserted island, who offers new tasks and upgrades to the player. Despite such an important role, he receives a lot of heat from the fans. However, a fan recently spoke up in favor of this hated in-game character.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan stood by Tom Nook
An avid Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan and Redditor, Sapphic Sunsette, took the sly raccoon’s side and shared some positive points about Tom. The ACNH player claimed to love having a landlord like Tom Nook, who sets up a tent for the players or builds them a house when needed.
Further, one of the reasons behind the hate is that the players have to pay back the bells Tom loans. But Sapphic said the sly raccoon never checks the credit score, neither does he take any interest fees and taxes. He also doesn’t give any deadline to pay the loan or threat of repossession. Instead, he always says, “Pay me back *whenever you **want***, you got this!”
The Animal Crossing player also put light on the fact that he asks the players to sell their unwanted items for Bells to his nephews, Timmy and Tommy. Eventually, Sapphic Sunsette claimed Tom Nook is a more decent person than the people the player has encountered in real life.
Other fans speak up for the Tom Nook hate
After Sapphic Sunsette’s Reddit post, many fans claimed that everyone would like someone similar to Toom Nook. But some fans also revealed that hate for the character comes from his appearances in past games, where he apparently had an aggressive nature when collecting a debt.
