If you fail to place them in an adequate fashion, then your Snowboy will not turn outright. So, it is incredibly important to carefully approach this process, as you can only build one Snowboy each day.

Every day, you will only find 2 Snowballs on the island, and they only spawn on snow. Find the two snowballs, and kick them around on snow to enhance their size. Do not push it into objects or off the cliff, as these things can destroy your snowballs. If you happen to lose your snowball, then just visit any building, as it will cause them to respawn.

Now take both the snowballs to the desired location and build them up to their desired size. You will need one massive snowball and the other one has to be much smaller in order to build the perfect Snowboy.

Each time you make the perfect version of the Snowboys, you will learn new DIY recipes. This is the best way to farm these recipes, and you can even use the time travel feature to pick up all recipes in a single run. Moreover, you will only learn a new DIY recipe if you manage to craft the right Snowboy.
