Animal Crossing is one of the biggest franchises of Nintendo. The game has a loyal fanbase and followers that adore the series with all of their hearts. The game is very influential and popular, but recently it reached a milestone that no one had ever imagined.

Animal Crossing is a social simulation video game series developed and published by Nintendo. The series was conceptualized and created by Katsuya Eguchi and Hisashi Nogami. The fifth and latest installment in the series is Animal Crossing New Horizons. 

During the pandemic time, the game had become a ray of sunshine for many. The wholesome atmosphere of the game helped many people keep themselves distracted in the tough times of the lockdown. The circumstances of the world and its quality made it hugely successful.

But recently it managed to reach a level of success, not even Nintendo had foreseen. Animal Crossing New Horizon broke all the previous records and secured its place in gaming history. 

Animal Crossing set a new bar in the history of games 

According to the Japanese database, Animal Crossing New Horizons has sold more than 10,450,000 units, making it the highest-selling video game ever in Japan! ACNH surpassed the legendary pokemon Red/Green/Blue’s record of 10,230,000, which was a record that stayed unbroken for decades.

Another impressive thing about the list was that the top 19 out of 20 were games owned by Nintendo. Bar Capcom’s Monster Hunter Freedom 3 on the PSP, the chart is a straight sweep for Nintendo, with studio classics like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. The only other third-party game other than Monster hunter was Square Enix’s Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies on the DS.
