Future Updates to expect in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Back in November, Nintendo introduced a lot of free content with the 2.0 update. It added popular special characters from past titles such as Brewster, Kapp’n, Katrina, and even introduced brand new cooking mechanics. During the ACNH Direct, developers announced that the 2.0 update would be the last major free update for the game.

This made users clear Nintendo is moving towards paid expansion, Happy Home Paradise. However, we will still receive minor updates for New Horizons in the future as well. In ACNH, major updates introduce new mechanics, which change the fundamentals of the game.

Therefore, the only updates that wouldn’t qualify as major updates are crossover updates. The crossover updates that can happen in the future are Zelda, Splatoon, and Monster Hunter. Interestingly, we have already seen an Animal Crossing crossover with these popular franchises in previous titles.

Nintendo introduced crossover theme villagers to attract more users to the game. Other than villagers, developers also released many furniture sets to match with the crossover, which several players enjoyed. Thus, we might see developers bringing all those popular sets and villagers back to ACNH with another crossover update with these titles soon.
