Baldur’s Gate 3 Story Originated On A Plane, Reveal Devs From Larian Studios

Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to hit the markets in August finally. The Larian Studios had made the bold decision to fast-track its release to avoid the clash with Starfield. The title is a highly anticipated action role-playing adventure based on the foundations of Dungeons & Dragons. While the game is an immersive action experience, it is widely praised for its narrative and characters. In a recent interview, the makers revealed the surprising inspiration for the third installment of the series. 

The inception of an idea is arguably the most essential element to a title development. It is the idea that shapes the onset of the developments. Any creation cannot overcome mediocrity if the code idea is weak. Baldur’s Gate series is one of the titles that is highly dependent on story and concept. And it is always fun to know the story behind such amazing creations. Surprisingly, the idea for the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 came to the creator on a flight.

In a candid interview with Eurogamer, Devs gave a sneak peek into the development process of Baldur’s Gate 3. The developer seemed pretty confident about the projected numbers of the title. The makers, when asked about the inception of the third installment’s story, gave an interesting reply. 

They stated, “Yep – it was on the flight from the Quebec studio to Seattle, browsing through Volo’s Guide [to Monsters] and seeing that picture of the tadpole being put in the eye.” Building further on the first thought story, the maker added, “We walked into the room with them and said, ‘What do you guys think of mind flayers?’ And they looked at me and said, ‘Mind flayers? It’s always mind flayers!’ It was pretty cool.”

The developer also shared the previously rejected ideas for Baldur’s Gate 3, one of which included using a divinity engine and then putting Baldur’s Gate- the entire world of the Forgotten Realms. The makers emphasized the desire to stick to simple and basic plotlines.

Larian Studios have advertised their upcoming giant as an innovative creation on the orthodox RPG formats. It has been facing strong comparisons with The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077. Although the makers assured their creation to be from a different perspective altogether.
