Gaming fans often clamor at how cheaters take over their favorite games. Almost all competitive games have their fair share of cheaters who use many dishonorable methods to gain an advantage over others. While many game devs take a somewhat questionable stance on cheaters, Blizzard Entertainment has announced a crackdown on players who use hacks and cheats in Overwatch 2.

Blizzard Entertainment announces broader anti-cheat efforts

Cheating is one of the biggest downers in the gaming industry. From Warzone, and Valorant to Apex Legends: all competitive titles are plagued by cheaters who aren’t afraid to use unruly hacks to gain an edge over other players. Some of these cheaters even go as far as using hacks in competitive tournaments with cash prizes. This often results in a poor experience for other players in the events. While these allegations are often overlooked by most devs, Blizzard has made a hard stance against cheaters in Overwatch 2.

In a major announcement, Blizzard has made it clear that they will be broadening their anti-cheat efforts in Overwatch 2 in the coming days. What has caught the attention of the community is the fact that Blizzard won’t be targeting just the cheaters, but everybody who ?conspicuously group with cheaters in an attempt to benefit from the cheating?. Blizzard’s new cheat-curbing policies have been explained in a blog post on Defense Matrix and are already active on a number of servers worldwide.

Players knowingly pairing up with cheaters are next in line

It’s not just cheaters in Overwatch 2 who are under the radar. Anyone who plays the game with cheaters knowingly, possibly trying their luck to level up faster, will also be banned from the game, claimed the devs. Since its release, Overwatch 2 has seen over 240,000 players being banned on account of using aim-bots or other aim hacks.

Along with tackling the issue of cheating in Overwatch 2, the devs have also announced to double down on the general amount of toxicity in within the community. While chat features are being improved, any form of toxic behavior in the public chat boxes will come with repercussions in the future. Even the voice-chat systemic being improved to detect rude behavior from the players. With such anti-disruptive efforts by the devs, it can be expected that genuine Overwatch 2 players can finally have a good time in the days to come.
