The hard work put in by Activision has clearly paid off quite well. This year’s latest Call of Duty premium in Modern Warfare II has turned out to be a juggernaut in terms of creating new records globally.

Activision has revealed that Modern Warfare II is the fastest earning Call of Duty ever. The awaited sequel to its 2019 blockbuster predecessor succeeded in earning close to $1 billion in just three days of its release. While doing so, it also went past two of the biggest Hollywood movies of 2022 in Top Gun: Maverick and Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II makes over $800 million globally in just three days of opening weekend

Activision Blizzard shared an official statement in which the publisher mentioned the unprecedented performance of the newest CoD installment. Describing it as the biggest entertainment opening of 2022, the company revealed that Modern Warfare II made over $800 million in three days of its opening weekend, from October 28th through October 30th.

“The blockbuster opening tops any of the biggest worldwide box office openings of 2022, surpassing ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ worldwide box office openings combined.” read the statement.

With that said, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II has delivered the number one top-selling opening weekend ever in the history of the series. Plus, it has also broken a five-day franchise record of Modern Warfare 3, set in 2011. This year’s game also witnessed the highest numbers for player participation as well as hours played.

She further mentioned that the series has more in store for the fans who have made the 2022 sequel a record hit. Warzone 2.0 is about to arrive soon on November 16th, continuing the new era of the franchise ahead. MWII is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net and Steam.
