And when it comes to fan favorites, none is as popular as Simon Riley aka the one and only Ghost. He’s made a return in this year’s Modern Warfare II, the latest premium from Activision and Infinity Ward.

While the newest Call of Duty entry is continuing to break sales records after having a dream debut last month, it has also ignited a crucial debate among hardcore fans. That’s because of the similarities between 2022’s Modern Warfare II and the original Modern Warfare 2, from which the latest installment takes certain inspirations. Especially, in terms of presenting the character of Ghost.

In the fictional lore of the action saga, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley is a British special forces operator. Most importantly, he’s been a crucial member of Task Force 141. Since his debut in 2009’s original MW2, Ghost has become iconic for his look. He wears a skull mask along with a headset and dark-colored sunglasses.

Apart from the latest iteration in 2022’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and the first installment, he’s also appeared in other CoD games as well. Ghost has been featured in titles like CoD: Online, CoD Heroes, and also MW2 Campaign Remastered. Due to the intensity of his presence on the screen, Simon has become most of the players’ favorite operators in the last decade.

But after the release of this year’s offering, there’s been a growing debate among hardcore fans regarding the best Ghost in Call of Duty saga. Especially when it comes to the original Modern Warfare 2 and the current title from Infinity Ward, which is a sequel to a rebooted game from 2019.

The debate over the best Ghost operator in the Modern Warfare sub-series grew so much that the Reddit platform even witnessed mass voting among the players. Surprisingly, around 79 percent of the users chose Modern Warfare II’s Ghost iteration, compared to the original entry’s version of the operator. The latter received only 21 percent of votes, implying that old is not always gold.

It’s quite interesting to see a debate of this kind where two similar video games are getting compared with each other. MWII is now available worldwide on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
