Call of Duty Joins Team Xbox: Activision Blizzard Officially Seals the Merger With Microsoft on Friday the 13th!

It’s a big day for Activision Blizzard, Microsoft, and all the gaming fans who have been waiting for the big announcement for the last year and a half. The Call of Duty publisher has made it official now. In a recent announcement, the company has revealed that it has joined Team Xbox. This means that IPs like Overwatch, Diablo, Crash Bandicoot Saga, and Warcraft are now under Microsoft.

Interestingly, the internet-breaking news came just hours after the UK CMA approved the $68.7 deal on Friday the 13th. Last week, reports claimed that the merger to close on this date – now it has!

While sharing the update for which a lot of people were curious, Blizzard wrote in an announcement blog that the deal is very special for them. “In our earliest days, we were a modest collective of designers who raided rivers, commanded choppers, and avoided pitfalls. Now as part of Xbox, we will continue our mission to deliver the world’s most epic interactive entertainment experiences to more people, more platforms, and across more worlds than ever before”, read the blog.

From now on, Activision and the Xbox maker will be co-creating the new titles, including Call of Duty. But that’s not everything as there’s a lot more on the cards going forward.

Team Xbox joins the fun with a special merger trailer featuring Activision titles

As if the news itself wasn’t enough for fans, Microsoft decided to give them something more with an exclusive trailer. It shows the future of Xbox and Activision titles going together under one roof. From Halo, Warcraft, and Starfield to Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, and Diablo, the clip has got all the popular IPs – coming together.

So what’s next, especially for Call of Duty? Well, the major announcement implies that all the new installments under the FPS series will still come out on the same day for all platforms like PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. But the biggest change will be to not have any platform-exclusive content.

PlayStation has been getting special perks for new COD releases in the last few years, including the upcoming Modern Warfare 3. This pattern won’t continue now going forward. Oh, and don’t forget the new hardware options as well. After its deal with Microsoft, Nintendo will also get to have Call of Duty titles on its future consoles.

Last but not least, new premium Call of Duty games will now come to Xbox Game Pass from 2024.
