Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Opening Weekend Player Count Sees 61% Drop Compared to Last Year

Call of Duty’s latest release, Modern Warfare 3 is not receiving as overwhelming responses as developers expected from the fans. Last year only, Activision Blizzard set a great record for the franchise, when Modern Warfare II received over $800 million within three days of its release. However, things are not going well for Activision this year. As a result Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 received an unexpected setback during its opening weekend.

Not many days ago, rumors brewed about Activision employees not having a clue about Modern Warfare 3’s development as a new addition to the franchise. They believed it was an expansion to maintain the Call of Duty franchise’s timeline. This started the debate about whether Modern Warfare 3 was made in a huge hurry. Now with a massive player drop in the opening weekend, looks like CoD fans are not at all pleased.

Call of Duty fans were truly excited to play this franchise’s latest addition, Modern Warfare 3. However, the beta access wasn’t very appealing to the fans and Call of Duty players believed that Modern Warfare 3 was unfinished. Now after the title’s release, players bombarded the internet with multiple complaints regarding Modern Warfare 3’s disc error, video freezes, and so on. As a result, fans are truly disappointed after investing almost $39 for the game. Following this, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s opening weekend saw 61% less player count compared to the massive $800 million success of the last year.

Not only that but Call of Duty’s this latest title didn’t even receive active 200K players on its opening weekend. Following Modern Warfare 2’s grand success, this was surely a huge disappointment for Activision Blizzard.

It is seen from the screenshot that on the 10th of November last year, nearly 500K players actively played Call of Duty on Steam. It couldn’t even cross 200K this year. In fact, not just players but famous streamer DrDisrespect too seemed pretty pissed about Modern Warfare 3. Want to know why?

When Activision first announced Modern Warfare 3, fans were truly excited. However, what made the changes in fans’ perspectives was when Activision dropped the title’s Beta access. Not just fans expressed their disappointment but it was CoD veteran DrDisrespect who had equal frustration about Modern Warfare 3. Initially, during the game’s beta access, DrDisrespect tweeted about facing severe issues in launching the game. This famous streamer tried his best to start the beta version’s campaign menu but it failed resulting in relaunching every time he tried to open the Game menu.

Not just DrDisrespect but Call of Duty fans reached out to developers about how their mission freezes automatically at times with disc error if it is a digital version. Therefore, the loss of active players in the opening weekend of Modern Warfare 3 seemed to provide a reason to all. This also means that Activision needs to take more time in developing the anticipated titles from such famous franchises as Call of Duty.
