It seems like 2022 has proven to be a memorable year for the Call of Duty series in many aspects. Not only is the latest installment from Activision performing better than expectations, it has also accomplished new records to say the least. In case if anyone did not keep a track of events, Modern Warfare II created franchise history more than a month ago when it grossed $1 billion in just ten days.

And it appears that the gaming juggernaut will, in fact, end this year being the biggest opening entertainment entity no matter what. Recently, Disney shared major news regarding its movie Avatar: The Way of Water. The sequel to its iconic 2009 predecessor made a theatrical debut nearly two weeks ago. And within days, the sci-fi epic has grossed a worldwide total of $1 billion. Not to mention it’s the fastest film to reach the figure in 2022. However, it couldn’t top Activision’s Call of Duty title’s phenomenal accomplishment.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II made $1 billion in 10 days while Avatar 2 is nowhere near!

The Walt Disney Company recently published an article while mentioning the record-breaking opening of Avatar 2. Since its worldwide release on December 16th, the James Cameron directorial has amassed $1 billion at the global box office. Moreover, it did that after just 14 days of its debut in theaters.

Avatar: The Way of Water is the 6th film ever, in the world, to make a billion dollars under two weeks. Domestically, it has gone past $300 million already. Plus, it is also “closing in on Top Gun: Maverick’s $770 million—which, if crossed, would make Avatar: The Way of Water the No. 1 international release of 2022 and No. 2 international release of the pandemic era.”

Now comparing to video games, especially 2022’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, then the Activision title made $1 billion in retails sales under just ten days of its launch on October 28th. It succeeded in doing that faster than any other past game in the action franchise.

While comparison of movies and games is not totally justified, it’s interesting to note that an extremely hyped flick like Avatar 2 couldn’t reach to $1 billion faster than a video game. But when you are talking about Call of Duty, it’s one of the most famous entertainment entities in the world. Thus, its sales record is a testament of how much people love gaming as much as they adore cinema.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II is now available across the globe on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Avatar 2 is also now playing in theaters worldwide.
