“We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year and beyond. Reports of anything otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details when the time is right.”

The statement underlines the words that rumors suggesting “anything otherwise” were totally incorrect. Meaning that several reputed insiders who claimed that 2023 was going to be empty in terms of having a standalone CoD release were not accurate. And now, it seems to be the case as well. Especially considering a new wave of recent leaks for an upcoming, “full premium” title from Activision this year.

Maybe the majority of players across the globe went on to believe the leaks more than Activision’s words. But now, the truth seems to be quite evident. Modern Warfare II is not likely to have a two-year run.
