In the 2019 Call of Duty Modern Warfare, players encounter a terrorist organization called Al-Qatala. The first mission starts with a terrorist attack on Piccadilly Circus in London. This new terrorist group started creating havoc under the leadership of Khaled Al-Asad and began bombing places. The main mission that they carry out is a chemical weapon attack in a fictional country called Urzikstan.

Players get to play as operators that are a part of the British SAS which is led by Captain John Price. Other notable operators in the game are Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Simon “Ghost” Riley, and Alex. Alex comes in as a CIA agent alongside the Urzikstani Liberation Force to take down the Al-Qatala. During the campaign, players carry out missions around London, Urzikstan, and Verdansk, to stop the terrorist organization and bring peace to the nations. While Al-Qatala is a threat, they are not the only one. Players also come across Russian troops. The game includes missions to take out facilities where the enemies are creating chemical weapons. One mission also features rescuing the ULF’s leader, Farah Karim.

The events of Modern Warfare 2 are set three years after the events of the first game. This time, players take on the role of Task Force 141 to eliminate multiple terrorist organizations. During their inquiry, they uncovered a collaboration between terrorists and an international group aimed at disseminating American-made missiles. This partnership includes Al-Qatala and the Mexican Drug Cartel ‘Las Alamas.’

Task Force 141 consists of familiar characters like Price, Kate Laswell, Ghost, Soap, Gaz, and the newly added Alejandro Vargas. The job of Task Force 141 is to find and prevent the missiles from being used to attack Washington, DC. The game includes a variety of missions, such as Dark Water, Nightwar, Wet Work, Tower, and All Ghillied Up. General Shepherd makes a return, but his appearance has changed, as he lacks his iconic mustache and looks different from his original appearance in the 2009 Modern Warfare 2. Similar to the ending of Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 concludes with Task Force 141 celebrating in a bar after thwarting Zyani’s plans. Unlike the original game, Price doesn’t kill Shepherd, who escapes accountability for his betrayals. The game hints at a Russian group collaborating with a new figure, the iconic villain Vladimir Makarov. This sets the stage for the next installment, Modern Warfare 3.
