Since the debut of 2019’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare, the situation of skill-based matchmaking has affected lots of players of the iconic action franchise. Due to a complicated implementation, most of them have ended up disliking it to say the least.

When Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, the sequel to its rebooted predecessor, released last year, fans had many questions. Without a doubt, they also had a doubt regarding SBMM’s presence. And the circumstances are quite interesting to say the least, especially when it comes to the ongoing installment’s extension in the form of Warzone 2. A lot of players are still not sure whether there is skill-based matchmaking or not in the newest battle royale offering from Activision.

The official developing teams under Activision‘s studios haven’t confirmed the existence of SBMM in Warzone 2 since its launch. Yes, it is there in the base game, that is MWII, but the case of the battle royale is quite tricky as of now. So far, many users have come up with an assumption that there is, indeed, SBMM in Warzone 2 according to their experiences in multiple matches.

SBMM has been there in prominent Call of Duty titles like Vanguard and even the original Warzone. So it seems like the devs are reserved on giving any clear answer about the situation regarding Warzone 2. But it’s highly unlikely for them to remove a controversial feature like skill-based matchmaking without officially informing the players themselves. Thus, it can be said that the game may still be utilizing some kind of matchmaking technique.

For those not aware about its actual function, SBMM basically uses player data to give them balanced matches. It uses stats from K/D (kill per death ratio) and score per minute, in order to match players with opponents of similar skill level.

So it makes high-skilled players to face those who are more skilled and proficient at the game. And low-skilled players get to face off against users with skills similar to them. Here, the main objective is to prevent extremely skilled players to not come across those who not very good overall in the battle royale title.
