The latest update of Call of Duty Warzone has certainly affected the meta. Gamers saw the first major change that nerfed the notoriously overpowered fully automatic assault rifles in Aug and FFAR. It indeed changed the game and moved it towards burst rifles like FARA 83, M16, and recently added CR-56 AMAX.

However, the latest update has further caused a meta shift, as the game progresses towards close-range weapons instead of rifles.

Call of Duty Warzone has buffed sub-machine guns and shotguns

Activision is looking to break away from burst meta, and by buffing close-range weapons. The studio tweaked CR-56 AMAX, FARA 83, and brought their power levels down significantly. Fara had its headshot multiplier reduced along with movement speed. Meanwhile, CR-56 also got its damage reduced, furthermore close-range weapons like Streetsweeper, Bullfrog. and PPSh-41 got buffed.

According to JGOD, the adjustments to assault rifles and burst rifles will have a significant impact. Assault rifles have found themselves in the short end of the stick, while SMGs might outshine everything. The mobility changes to the arsenal of weapons have downplayed assault rifles’ performance, as FARA saw its strafe speed reduced. Similarly, Black Ops Cold War’s AK, FFAR all saw mobility nerf.

However, SMGs like MC10, MP7, Bullfrog are at the top with great movement speed and quicker time to kill (TTK). In terms of TTK statistics, SMGs are at the top of the food chain, and assault rifles struggle to find their spot. These changes are evidence of a meta shift, which has been introduced by Activision.

Players usually use a sniper rifle for long-range engagement, and it looks like SMGs will replace rifles for close combat incursions. The damage mobility changes and TTK will certainly toss rifles out of meta.

The community will find weapons like MP7, Mac10, and Bullfrog taking over the game. By all means, you can run anything you wish to have. However, the successive patches and changes definitely point towards the SMG meta. These handy weapons can shoot a lot faster, and offer more mobility as compared to assault rifles.
