Well, the clear and simple answer is yes. You will be able to play the online courses, for free, even if you don’t buy and own the Booster Course Pass.

In fact, Nintendo itself, made a clarification on this matter and provided the information many hoped to hear about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s new content.

“Courses from wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be played from March 18th locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.”

So there you have it. If you are going to play it with your friend or any other close relative, both parties don’t need to have their own Booster Course Pass. Should one of you have it, the other person can enjoy its benefits.

Speaking of the DLC content, then there will be a total of 48 online courses for Nintendo players of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. To get all of them, you will have to shell out $24.99 USD. Plus, it will be included in the Switch Online as well as the Expansion Pack.
