CD Projekt’s CEO Boldly Slams Down Sony Acquisition Rumors

As one of the foremost industry leaders in the gaming console space, Sony and its marquee brand PlayStation have been investing heavily to maintain their position. This means that newer games, exclusive titles, exclusive in-game content, and many more similar factors are drawn into action. One such investment is acquisition.

The Japanese multinational conglomerate even had a massive showcase this May 2023 to give fans a glimpse of what they have in store. Amidst the showcase, rumors arose quite fast. According to some reports, the CyberPunk 2077 developers were on the verge of signing with Sony. But, now the CEO of the aforementioned company has broken the silence to give a clear-cut situation of what is actually going on behind the scenes.

There are countless game developers in the market right now. Each of them has their own concepts and ideas to hook the fans and grab their attention. Among them, there are a few whho have struck gold with their projects, and CD Projekt is one of them. Through titles like Witcher 3, the studio was able to establish a unique forte of its own. Now, as it is nearing the CyberPunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC, rumors arose regarding a plausible Sony purchase.

Destiny Leakers had recently reported that Sony was planning on buying the CD Projekt studio. If this had happened, major titles including the Phantom Liberty DLC would have turned into PlayStation exclusives. When the rumors showed no sign of stopping, the CEO of CD Projekt came forward tearing through the supposed reports via their official twitter.

“I can repeat what we have been saying throughout the years—CD Projekt is not for sale”, stated CEO Adam Kiciński during the Q1 2023 earnings meet of CD Projekt as he cleared the dark clouds around the company. He additionally stated that he and his company want to be independent. The creative freedom of being an individual organization is something CD Projekt cherishes. Thus, they are not planning any moves for now.

They currently have many ambitious projects going on – from Phantom Liberty Cyberpunk DLC to Witcher 4. It seems as if CD Projekt RED is not going anywhere anytime soon.
