The CNN+ service was started as an initiative for people who do not have cable or satellite TV subscriptions to access cable news networks. In a very layman’s sense, the new service was an expansion of the wide variety of programs that are offered by CNN. CNN+ was intended to offer expanded news coverage alongside 12 hours of live programming each day. Including this, there are on-demand news specials as well which are exclusive to the subscription service.

However, the service is currently seeing a bad state of affairs given the tally of users who have started using it on a daily basis. Washington Post gaming reporter Gene Park has even compared this service with Farming Simulator 2019 which has more users than this new service.

CNN+ fails to gain considerable support with the lack of viewers

CNN+ which was launched on 29 March is suffering heavily ever since its inception. Its Cable Network itself has been on a sharp decline since 2021 but is still somehow able to garner an average of around 700k viewers in a day.

CNN wanted to make a big impression with CNN+, so it enlisted big-name talent from rival news networks including NBC News’ Kasie Hunt and Fox News’s Chris Wallace. However, with entertainment-first options dominating the landscape, there is widespread skepticism about whether there is enough demand to sustain a standalone news streaming service. On its first day, Disney+, for example, had more than 10 million subscribers.

He sounded quite positive and has said, “It’s ahead of my expectations in terms of where the subscribers are, the engagement, the receptiveness that we’re getting in terms of people’s response to the journalists of CNN+”. 

Speaking of Farming Simulator 2019, the game had a peak number of players with 59,234 an all-time high. The game might not have been popular amongst the greater gaming community but has a following worth of its own.
