Cyberpunk 2077 Regains Lost Glory As It Surpasses A Huge Steam Milestone

The pre-release Hype train for massive AAA games is a double-edged sword. The hype may help with the pre-orders and overall sales, but the weight of expectations sometimes gets too much for the developers to handle. Cyberpunk 2077 was a prime example of the toxicity that follows overwhelming hype.

During the launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was deemed unplayable. The game was released unfinished, resulting in a plethora of bugs and glitches infesting the game. The reason for this unbaked release was the unrealistic expectations and impatience of the fans. This caused the studio to overwork the employees and launch the game before it was ready.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 back after the release of Edgerunners?

Though the backlash was very harsh, the critics and fans announced the game to be dead. But the developers didn’t lose hope in their creation. CD projekt RED the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 kept on working on the game. Tweaking bugs, removing glitches, and even delivering new updates and additions to the game. Their hard work and devotion to their title finally made the game that it was supposed to be! And the results are apparent.

On September 24, 2022, Game sales data analyst @BenjiSales on Twitter posted a tweet reporting the news that Cyberpunk 2077 has toppled the record of Witcher 3 in terms of contemporary players. On steam, the record for Witcher’s highest contemporary player count was 103,329, while Cyberpunk’s player count is 104,827.

What is the reason behind this re-youth?

According to the speculations, the main reason behind this resurfacing is the anime adaptation of the game Cyberpunk Edgerunners. This adaptation was so well received and universally loved that it compelled the players to experience the Game after the end of the series.

Last week CyberPunk 2077 counted a million players a day, almost the same figures as the day of its release. Only now the players are actually loving the game. The patches and updates from the developers finally made it a polished game that deserves the massive hype and love that it is getting.

 

After this glorious comeback, Cyberpunk’s next milestone would be to break the sales record of Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 sold around 40 million copies worldwide, which is a humongous record to break. It may be very hard, but it is not impossible for Cyberpunk 2077.
