Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds Reveals How Fortnite and GTA Inspired His Ambitious Movie

Ever since Ryan Reynolds announced the breaking news of Hugh Jackman’s big return as Wolverine, fans have gone mad, to say the least. After all, the Logan actor, along with the Deadpool star, is set to make a grand debut in the MCU. However, apart from being a superhero, Ryan has also been a part of video games, in a way.

In case anyone didn’t keep a track of his movies last year, Ryan Reynolds was seen in a popular film called Free Guy. But most of the fans might not be aware of a hidden fact about this movie. Based on everything gaming, it was inspired by two of the biggest gaming IPs at the moment – Fortnite and GTA.

Free Guy starring Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds featured Fortnite and GTA!

The movie was released last year and featured the actor as a bank teller. He finds out that he’s a non-playable character inside a massively multiplayer online game. Eventually, he teams up with a player to find the truth about a gaming company’s CEO who stole the player’s source code.

Ahead of the theatrical release of Free Guy, Ryan Reynolds had an interaction with BBC Click. While talking to the platform, he talked a lot about all the gaming aspects that his film tried to explore. Moreover, he also revealed that Free Guy had a lot of references taken from the two popular gaming franchises. “I think people will recognize elements of Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite,” he said.

Moreover, he also mentioned other games that Free Guy took inspiration from. All things considered, though, it’s nice to see that video games these days are getting serious recognition even in big-budget Hollywood projects.

Talking about Ryan Reynolds, then he’s stunned the entire MCU fandom with his recent Deadpool 3 announcement. This will be his first project in the ever-expanding cinematic universe. Since he’s also revealed Hugh Jackman‘s anticipated return, which was shocking, hardcore moviegoers and comic book lovers will now impatiently wait for the film’s eventual release.
