It’s the season of quarterly financial updates! Nintendo finally released its financial status and details from Q1 2022, and it looks quite good overall. Even though the ongoing semiconductor shortage has affected the company’s production plans, Nintendo’s financial projection for 2022 still happens to stand intact.
In its latest financial results document, Nintendo mentions details from the second quarter this year, bringing to light its hits and misses. As it happens, first-party software sales increased for the company. According to the report, Nintendo Switch Sports and Mario Strikers: Battle League did fairly sales-wise. Moreover, Kirby and The Forgotten Land became the best-selling Kirby game in 30 years of the series’ existence.

As fans could decipher, it was a good quarter for Nintendo’s software sales. But, what about Nintendo Switch? The brand currently houses three models, Switch, Switch OLED, and Lite. According to the report, the hardware sales were satisfactory, even though it experienced a decline year-on-year.
Nintendo crosses the 111 million mark
A Nintendo informant, Nibel, pointed out that the total Switch sales have now reached a huge 111.08 million mark! This is a massive achievement to consider amidst the supply chain turmoil. The company has overcome a lot of barriers to reach this mark, and fans believe it will continue to do so!
From Nintendo's newest financial results
– Switch now at 111.08m units (+ 3.43m units in the last quarter; a decline from last year's 4.45m due to the semiconductor shortage)
– demand remains stable in all regions
– forecast still at 21m unitshttps://t.co/BTWHuT6VCm pic.twitter.com/aClTvDLLzr— Nibel (@Nibellion) August 3, 2022
With the supply chain dealing heavy constraints in Japan, the console and video game giant naturally faced an impact. As a result, only 3.43 units of Switch consoles ended up selling in the first quarter of Nintendo’s FY23. The report suggested a 22.9% decline year-over-year. Last financial year, 4.45 million Nintendo Switch units were sold. However, the demand for the console is reportedly stable in all regions.

In fact, Nintendo has kept its yearly forecast at 21 million units intact. “There are no changes to the consolidated financial forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023 that was announced on May 10, 2022,” a statement from the report read.
Switch aims to stand strong amidst severe constraints
The comparative decline in hardware sales was expected, considering the supply chain constraints. However, it seems like the Japanese giant is quite confident about the rest of the ongoing financial year. With nine months left in FY23, Nintendo has to sell an average of around 5.8 Switch units per quarter to meet the current projection. It isn’t an easy target!

“Due to delays in the procurement of components such as semiconductors this year, we have not been able to conduct production as planned. However, we expect procurement to gradually improve from late summer towards autumn, giving us a clearer outlook regarding production for the remaining calendar year.” Nintendo further proclaimed in the report.
