Streaming isn’t all fun and games. While streaming can earn you millions of fans, it also attracts a lot of trolls and negative comments. Pokimane, the popular Fortnite and Valorant streamer, recently revealed how she is still a target for sexist comments in 2023, despite being one of the biggest streamers right now.
While the internet is often considered a safe space for the community, there is no shortage of hateful people either. Pokimane’s misfortune once again shows just how stagnant the world has become. Furthermore, it showcases how hard it is for some people to accept that the world has progressed quite a lot.
Pokimane is astonished by sexist comments

Pokimane recently took to Twitter to share an incident that has evidently hit her where it hurts. She tried to showcase her resilience. However, fans could easily feel the raging frustration behind every word. “i cannot believe it’s 2023 and i’m still being told to “get back in the kitchen”, wrote Pokimane on her Twitter handle.

However, Pokimane didn’t let the troll get a pass over the incident without a few sneers of her own. She proceeded to remind the individual that she has earned millions of dollars for gaming. While her cooking skills aren’t all that great, she’s confident enough that it won’t matter either.

Nevertheless, the ecosystem around gamers and streamers revolves around its own community. Hence why fans need to make a solid stand to root out the problem from its cause.
Streamers aren’t prone to trolls, fans need to make a stand fast
Sreamers like MrBeast, Ninja, Shroud, or Pokimane have become common names for fans. Most of these streamers spend hours every day making videos and curating content specifically for their fans. While most streamers make gaming content, others have ventured into newer paths that have also helped them gain millions of followers. Yet, there are a lot of people who look down upon female streamers in the industry and try to downplay their efforts and hard work.

Pokimane’s experience will undoubtedly leave a bad taste in the mouth of the fans who actually follow her for her gaming content. Even though many of her fans defended her vehemently on Twitter, it doesn’t take away the fact that the incident did happen in the first place. Unless the streaming community understands that they need to respect boundaries, the industry will continue limping thanks to the misguided views of some members.
