Sony released PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020, taking fans on a new adventure. The next-gen console dropped as a successor to its previous model, the PS4, which came out in 2013. PlayStation 5 was a grand success, as the consoles sold out in minutes after its release.

In fact, the company reported a chip shortage for months, disallowing fans to purchase the product. But now, even after having a limited supply, the franchise has announced to cross a massive console milestone by March 2023.

Sony plans to cross a huge hardware milestone despite the console shortage

A few days back, Sony hosted a meeting to talk about the company’s plans concerning the PlayStation 5. Deputy president Hiroki Totoki spoke about the gameplay time, as he “mentioned a 15% year-on-year decline in the past three months up to June 30, 2022.” Totoki also mentioned June being the strongest month in terms of sales, as the company reported a 3% rise compared to May.

“We believe the main reason for this is that the growth of the overall game market has recently decelerated as opportunities have increased for users to get out of home as COVID-19 infections have subsided in key markets,” Hiroki explained to their fortune investors.

2022 looks like a promising year for the Japanese giant as it will launch some top-grossing games soon. To mention names, users will get access to titles such as God Of War: Ragnarok, The Last Of Us, Madden 23, and FIFA 23 in the coming months.

Apart from this, the company has reported promising sales from the PS+ subscription program, as users from different parts of the world have purchased their fresh addition. Keeping all the above things in the light, Sony aims to cross the 80 million console sale mark by March 31, 2023.
