MrBeast and Squid Games creators missing out on profit due to this Netflix move

In 2021, MrBeast recreated the Squid Games on his YouTube channel. This video took off and became the most popular video on his channel with the most views. And MrBeast shared the stats showing how much this video profited him. However, he did not get the full potential of the profits due to the simple reason that Netflix owns the intellectual property of this series. Furthermore, the series creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, also did not get huge profit cuts.

The show was immensely useful for Netlfix for bringing in more audience. Furthermore, this series alone raised Netlix’s internal value by $900 million. But Hwang giving up his rights to ownership for this title means Netflix has complete control over the franchise. It also means creators like MrBeast have to give some profit margin to Netflix for using their intellectual property in a video.

In a report by Los Angeles Times, the woes of the creators have been revealed. A writer stated, “At first it was exciting to think that people all around the world would be able to watch my shows. But now I’m thinking, ‘So what? I’m not getting anything out of it’.” Although, MrBeast has received his profits from YouTube, but probably he too had to give some margins back to Netflix.
