Ever since its launch back in 2017, Destiny 2 has been widely celebrated by the gaming community. The game won the title of Best PC Game during the Game Critics Awards the year it came out. For over 6 years, Bungie has kept the game alive, but their journey has been anything but smooth sailing. Destiny 2 still receives patches and content updates regularly. While most of the updates fall into place smoothly, some bring in some unexpected bugs.

Most of the time, developers overlook small bugs, but on the rare occasions when they miss a major bug, it can result in a disaster. When players discover a bug before the developers do, we can observe some truly interesting moments on those rare occasions. One such bug has recently surfaced. Let’s see what it is about!

Exotic weapon perk exploit in Destiny 2

The newly discovered Destiny 2 bug makes it so that players can equip exotic perks, on legendary weapons. This bug completely breaks the PvP scene by including an overpowered weapon that should not be in that game mode. This became an issue when players started to abuse the bug and ruin the experience of other players online. The bug not only combines frames from different weapon types but also allows users to add exotic weapon perks to regular legendary weapons. This drastically alters the functionality of weapons, making it feel like players are cheating when using them.

In order to exploit the bug, players need to go into the weapons crafting menu. Once in the menu, players need to select the initial shape of the weapon. Then, they must instantly click on the weapon they want to push the perk onto. Players often attach shotgun frames to auto rifles when exploiting bugs. This results in an extremely low time to kill in PvP. Another significant exploited custom gun in the game involves players crafting grenade launchers with frames from other weapons. This creates highly explosive projectiles that can decimate enemies and PvP players. With these powered-up weapons, players can instantly eliminate the enemy, giving them no chance to react.

Bungie’s response to the community

Bungie put out a statement saying that they are actively working on a fix for the bug but haven’t indicated plans for an emergency server shutdown or rollback. The developer acknowledged the issue and stated that these overpowered weapons will be reset in the future. Bungie also mentioned that they do not plan to disable Trials of Osiris despite the exploits interfering with the ranked system.

The studio mentioned that players who have used the bug to their advantage won’t face in-game restrictions or bans, as per Bungie’s policy. However, they continued to warn players against the use of external scripting and network manipulation tools as they are still subject to potential bans.
