Sonic is a beloved franchise and has managed to sway players throughout the years ever since the first entry came out in 1991. Well, it seems like that installment is still a tough nut to crack for a lot of players who play it even today.

There have been several great speedruns for the original Sonic the Hedgehog in the past from various gamers. Most of them ended above the time of nine minutes no matter how hard they tried to finish it faster. However, recently a player succeeded in breaking the 9-minute barrier while setting up an unbelievable speedrun benchmark.

Sonic the Hedgehog player beats the 1991 game with “8:55” speedrun milestone!

The first game in the franchise was released more than three decades ago for the Sega Genesis platform. The title featured the central character of Sonic, who’s capable of achieving supersonic speeds.

Despite being a 30-year old game, Sonic the Hedgehog has managed to remain popular among the die-hard lovers of the series. It has led to many gamers trying to finish the title in just a matter of minutes. However, so far, no one could go below the mark of nine minutes in terms of having an astonishing speedrun record, until recently.

As reported by Gamerant, a user name eandis99, dropped a video on their channel. It showed them completing the iconic Sonic game in just eight minutes and 55 seconds. This is the very first instance of someone managing to finish this title in less than nine minutes.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the sequel to its 2020 predecessor, is now the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the United States of America.
