Elden Ring comparison revealed: PlayStation 5 vs Xbox Series X vs PC!

In its comparison video, Digital Foundry mentioned what users can expect from the game’s release on Friday.

In terms of the consoles, Elden Ring plays out quite well on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both of them offer two modes: a frame-rate mode and a quality mode. However, despite the launch day patch 1.02. being applied the fantasy RPG runs at 45-60fps on the two devices with the frame rate mode.

On the quality mode though, there is a decline in the frames, as they range between 30-60 fps. All in all, if you are looking for constant availability of 60 fps in Elden Ring, then it won’t be possible. At least, not yet on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Speaking of head-to-head performance, then PS5 seems to offer a better Elden Ring gameplay in terms of frame rates. While the Xbox Series X slightly falls behind. But with the latter’s VRR functionality (variable refresh rate), players can achieve a smoother experience, if they have TVs compatible with this feature.

On the PS5, sadly, there’s no such offering like VRR on the Series X. But its owners can get better frame rates by applying a workaround of running the PS4 app on the PS5. This will seemingly enable Elden Ring to run at 60 fps. For now, that’s the only way to have an aspired gameplay of the best-rated title of 2022.

For PC, however, the story is not good at all, especially in comparison to the consoles. Since it uses DirectX12, Elden Ring fans may witness instances of lag and frame stuttering.

There is stuttering of around 250 milliseconds when new effects appear on the PC screen. There’s another situation of lag when moving through new game areas. Also, there is a lack of ultrawide screen support; plus, there’s no option for supporting frame rates going above 60 fps.

Simply put, the overall gameplay can’t be called perfect across all three platforms, that is, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

Fans in doubt after questions arise over PC performance

After the comparison revealed between the three platforms, Elden Ring fans expressed worries over the FromSoftware launch.

Here are some of the reactions of potential buyers about its expected performance:

Elden Ring is releasing worldwide for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
