FromSoftware is a force to be reckoned with. They are known for some of the most incredibly designed, visually stunning and most challenging games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. Bloodborne and Elden Ring are also GOTY winners, with their last GOTY being the latter at The Game Awards (TGA) 2022. With this year’s TGA less than 2 months away, fans will be wondering if the devs have anything to show for this year. Well, fans will want to sit down for this one.

Their next game is already causing a lot of buzz in the gaming community. There are many rumors and leaks about it too. Some say their next game is inspired by Bloodborne in many ways. Others say it is the largest game FromSoftware has ever created. Without context, these things might raise more questions in one’s mind than give them any answer. And it looks like someone has the answers. Turns out, a “supposedly leaked” game will not feature in the upcoming TGA.

Very recently, someone on Reddit decided that fans need to have some information on FromSoftware’s upcoming venture, Project Spellbound. And the update on the leak was shared by a user on X (formerly Twitter). The tweet read, “the leaker claims the game will release in early 2025 and will NOT be shown at this year’s TGA.” In a follow-up tweet, the user confirms the leaker did share the info with them privately as well.

This game is rumoured to be a departure of sorts from their normal gameplay style. In Spellbound, players will not use weapons as their way of combat but magic instead. The magic, in turn, will be classic weapons for the player character.

This change of offensive weapons is just the first of the things FromSoftware is looking to change in this game though. Fans will, for the first time in a soulsborne game, see themselves exploring underwater areas. Player character in Spellbound will be able to swim. Further, here are the leaked details:

  • The main city of the game may be called Kenraith. And it will be split by water channels.
  • There will be a huge open world surrounding the main city.
  • This Open world would contain little villages, beaches and castles.
  • The first trailer for this game will reportedly not be shown during the Game Awards 2023. They will instead show it during the summer game fest or another E3-type show.
  • The release date for this rumoured to be sometime during “early 2025.”

These insightful updates fuel excitement for the game which fans are so eager to dive into. The magic and underwater feature is to be the core of all the hype at the same time. Can’t imagine how that would work, but let’s hope they have this stuff in the reveal trailer whenever that comes out.

There is also the matter of the Shadow of the Erdtree

While new information about project Spellbound is always helpful and interesting to read about, one cannot help but wonder what happened to the DLC for Elden Ring? Maybe that’s the reason FromSoftware will not show the new game during the TGA. Maybe they are prioritising on showing the DLC during that award show.

And who knows, this DLC’s upcoming 2024 release might have even postponed this new game’s launch to 2025. It has already been said that it’s a massive DLC that will add a world of new content to Elden Ring, hence it only makes sense for FromSoftware to keep players focused on that for the time being.
