Elon Musk Responds After Rockstar Games and Nintendo Get Affected by New Twitter Policies

Elon Musk’s $44 billion move to buy Twitter shocked the world. But since taking the reins, Musk has introduced many changes on the platform. However, these changes have been a curse for some big-name video game companies like Nintendo and Rockstar.

One of those profound changes is related to the Twitter verification mark. Earlier, people were presented the ‘Blue Tick’ when they met specific requirements or were public figures. But under Musk’s rule, anybody can get the mark. All they have to do is pay $8 monthly to enjoy the blue mark on any account.

New Twitter policies are chaos for video games

The blue tick was a way to prove the authenticity of an account. But because of, the new changes by Musk are creating problems for video game industry giants like Nintendo, Rockstar, and Valve. Many Twitter users are impersonating these companies by changing their names and profile pictures to match the official accounts. Finally, they get the blue mark to fool fans into thinking they are authentic.

A Twitter user changed his Twitter identity to match Nintendo of America. Then the impostor tweeted a picture of the Japanese giants’ official mascot, Mario. However, the Italian plumber was showing his middle finger in the image. Many Nintendo fans initially believed it to be the real deal because of the blue tick.

Nintendo is one of many brands to suffer from the new Twitter policy. A user also impersonated Rockstar Games and claimed the upcoming week’s much-awaited next Grand Theft Auto title. Further, someone impersonating Valve revealed the Half-Life creators are working on a video game called “Richocet: Neon Prime.”

The verified parody accounts caused a lot of chaos among fans and various companies which use the social media platform. The impostors spreading fake news and negative comments can hurt the big-name personalities and brands they are impersonating as.

Many have even questioned the new policies of Elon Musk and claimed this is just a way for him to make money. A Twitter user wrote“The beauty of this is each account that gets verified paid $8. Twitter keeps the money and suspends the account. It’s genius, and I hope more folks do this. It’s free money for Twitter.” Musk also replied to this tweet with emojis, making it look like he agrees with the claims.
