Epic Games announces changes in payouts for Fortnite creators

Epic Games announced the addition of a new measure to the Fortnite Engagement Payout 2.0 in a recent official Fortnite blog article. This metric is an update to the new payout implemented by Epic Games on March 2023. The time spent in-game will now be included when determining the content creator’s remuneration. This will prompt many creators to spend more time on their islands.

This new metric will join player popularity and retention metrics to determine the overall payout for the creators. However, Epic Games has nerfed the other metrics as compared to the time played metric. The studio has also mentioned equating the weightage of each metric over the period of time as creators get more retention and user acquisitions.

Epic Games’ executive vice president thinks this new metric will help creators

In an interview with GamesBeat, Sax Persson, executive vice president of Epic Games, believed this new metric would result in more money for Fortnite creators in the upcoming April payout. The new payout method is already paying out creators a lot more than the earlier method. Including the new update, over 200 creators would earn more than $100,000 per year.
