Epic Games has been quite busy lately. 2020 has been a rather busy year in the Fortnite community, with online concerts and various collaborations taking place. Recently, Epic Games acquired a shopping mall near its current headquarters in North Carolina to turn it into a new base.
In fact, the company has had its headquarters in Cary for more than 20 years now. However, it seems as though it wants to enlarge its base now by shifting to the 87-acre site. The Fortnite developer aims to make this change by 2024.
Epic Games made an official announcement that it has acquired the Cary Towne Center mall for $95 million. Furthermore, the development of the 980 thousand square foot campus for its new headquarters will begin soon. The company aims to create a recreational zone in this area along with the office space.
Epic is collaborating with the Cary town officials to browse ways in which the community can use this space. Further, Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht seems to look forward to this renewed collaboration with the gaming company.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely and collaboratively with the Epic team as they conceptualize their new campus, and we’re honored to partner with them on this exciting new development.”
Jason Davis, the Managing Director at Turnbridge Equities also seems to eagerly wait for this collaboration to come through.
“Epic shares our vision for transforming Cary Towne Center into a vibrant community space. This sale is further validation of our value-driven investment strategy, and the property could not be placed in better hands.”
The Epic Games Store is currently live with its Holiday Sale, offering many fan-favorite games for dirt cheap prices. Check it out here if you haven’t already!
