The movie keeps true to its originality as the references from the initial Mario games like the original Super Mario Bros. are kept intact. The trailer also referenced the horror-themed game Luigi’s Mansion, when we see Luigi running from Koopas towards a scary mansion.

Mario gets various power-ups throughout the movie by wearing super suits. In the teaser trailer, Mario wears a catsuit while fighting with Donkey Kong. This is an homage to the cat Mario from Super Mario 3D World. We also see Mario flying around in a Tanooki suit which comes from Super Mario Brothers 3.

Return of OG enemies of Mario

Mario’s movie will be incomplete without him having battles with his enemies. Bowser was in the role of the main antagonist from the start. But the trailer also gave us a preview of all enemies Mario has to face. Hammer bros., sorcerer Kamek, Goombas, Bob-ombs, Piranha Plants, Buzzy Beetles, and Shy Guys are some baddies that appeared in trailers.

The final trailer of the movie showed us the interaction between Luma from Super Mario Galaxy and Luigi. Fans are speculating that we will be seeing more of Luma as it got included in the toys from McDonald’s for the movie.
