FaZe Clan Are Now Counter Strike 2’s First Champions

The launch of Counter-Strike 2 has got players extremely hyped to see how the competitive scene of the game changes. Many new players are getting on board with Valve to see how this classic shooter has evolved. And almost a month after its release, the eSports world saw the first CS2 tournament.
Valve conducted one of the first major tournaments for the game, as it is mainly known for its competitive scene. While the game is still quite new, it had to be one of the veteran teams to take the prize. And they did for $100,000!

FaZe Clan emerged as the victors in the first top-level Counter-Strike 2 LAN tournament at IEM Sydney. This was done by defeating Complexity with a score of 2-1 in the grand final. FaZe Clan, regarded as a top contender, lived up to expectations. They faced a tough opening match, losing 19-15 in overtime to GamerLegion. Nevertheless, they went on a winning streak by defeating teams like Vitality, NAVI, GamerLegion, ENCE, and Mouz.

After reaching the finals, they had to play against their top contender, Complexity. While Complexity had a rough start to the tournament, too, they barely scraped through the first round. But things didn’t look up for them when they lost 2-0 to G2. FaZe Clan also achieved a historic victory by winning 13 consecutive rounds against ENCE in Counter-Strike 2. This marked their first win against ENCE in the game and excited fans about their future performances. The individual players delivered exceptional results, particularly TWISTZZ, with an impressive 16 kills and an ADR of 116.8.

The final included three maps. Complexity claimed victory in the first map, Overpass, with a score of 13-11. FaZe Clan secured the win in the second map, Nuke, with a score of 13-10. The deciding map, Ancient, witnessed FaZe Clan’s triumph after delivering a strong performance on the CT side, ultimately securing the tournament win. FaZe Clan secured the IEM Sydney trophy and prize money of $100,000 for their first-place finish, while Complexity received $42,000 for their second-place finish.
The CS2 Tournament Calendar for 2024

In 2024, major Counter-Strike tournaments will shift to CS2, following Valve’s move to end team-tournament organizer relationships for fair play. The calendar features IEM Katowice 2024, from January 31 to February 11 at Spodek Arena, with a $1,000,000 prize pool. This marks the last year of ESL and BLAST’s partnership. CS also announced the PGL Copenhagen Major with a $1,250,000 prize pool, scheduled for March 17 to March 31 at the Royal Arena.
In April, IEM China 2024 features a $250,000 prize pool, and ESL Pro League Season 19 takes place from April 23 to May 12 at the InterContinental Malta, with a $750,000 prize pool. May will bring the IEM Dallas runs from May 27 to June 2 in Dallas with a $250,000 prize pool. In August, IEM Cologne is set for August 7 to August 18, offering $1,000,000. In September, ESL Pro League Season 20 occurs from September 3 to September 22 at InterContinental Malta, with a $750,000 prize pool. Finally, October hosts IEM Fall from October 7 to October 13 with a $250,000 prize pool, awaiting venue details.

As FaZe won the first-ever CS2 tournament, this is just the start. Valve plans on pushing the competitive scene for CS2 more than ever, giving more teams and players a chance to showcase their skills.
