On January 24, 2023, one of the most anticipated games of the year, Forspoken, made its debut. Developed by Luminous Productions and published by the renowned Square Enix, Forspoken had some big expectations on its back. Unfortunately, not only did it fail to live up to it, but according to YouTuber Moistcr1tikal, it was just miserable.

Ever since the announcement, the game had become a hot topic for discussions in the gaming community. But this attention wasn’t in a positive light. The game was mostly laughed at and memed because of its “Cringy” dialogue and unrealistic set pieces.

Dialogue from one of the initial trailers of the game, “So, let me get this straight. I’m somewhere that’s not what I would call Earth… I’m seeing freaking dragons, and… oh yeah, I’m talking to a cuff! Yeah, okay, that is something I do now. I do magic, kill jacked-up beasts — I’ll probably fly next.” Cheesy dialogues like these became a huge template in the meme culture

After the release, reviews flooded in, and unsurprisingly for many, they were mostly negative. Fans as well as professional critics were complaining about the ‘cringe-worthy dialogues’, mundane combat system, and unimpressive open world and sidequests. Currently, the game has a 6 out of 10 score on Steam and a 30% score on google reviews.

To fuel the fires to new heights, YouTube’s harsh critic Moistcr1tikal made a full video review of the game after finishing it on his streams. At the beginning of his review, Moist talked about the protagonist and how “unlikeable” she is. He said, “there is no point in the game where the main character of the game, Frey, isn’t being snarky, rude or sarcastic. She is written as if she is constantly playing Call of Duty in Xbox Live lobby and constantly talking sh*t to everybody.”

According to him, “The writing on this game feels like Marvel had s*x with Twitter’s most annoying comedian and two of them performing this unholy fusion dance that to write this game. I can’t really overstate how annoying the dialogue was in here. It somehow made the recent Saints Row look not sh*tty in comparison.”

Not just the main character, he continued to bash the game for its shortcomings in storytelling, repetitive sidequests, and unimpressive combat. But he also praised the game where it was due. He stated that the visuals are very nice in the game. In the end, Moist gave the game a score of 45 out of 100 on his ‘Moistmeter’.
