Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a huge success at launch. Fans finally got their hands on the title that they had been anticipating for over a decade. And when Square Enix finally launched the game, it was close to perfect. It only had one massive difference from the original. It was basically set in a different timeline, therefore changing some major story points significantly.

Alongside the story, developers also added some elements to this game. Most of those elements got a very positive response from fans, but others did not. One such element was ‘the Whispers’. They were a weird paradox that developers decided to add to their own retelling of this game; fans hated them, and they are coming back in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

As mentioned above, the Final Fantasy 7 remake changed much about the original game’s story. These changes took the story of this game in a whole new direction. Events happened differently, and some of the characters met a different fate than in the original. This was deliberately done to accommodate the episodic nature of these games.

But the developers also decided to add a new kind of creature called ‘the whisperers’ to the Final Fantasy 7 remake. These creatures are there to make sure the timeline and the story go as expected. They are a reminder to the player of how things happened in the original game. And so, whenever something happens in the remake that differs from the original story, Whisperers try to fix it. They simply do not make sense, and fans hate their existence.

But the game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, stated recently that the whisperers would be coming back with Final Fantasy rebirth. And fans are not happy about this development in the least bit. Let’s see if this outroar gets loud enough and the developers decide to change their stance on this decision. Whatever the decision might be on this, fans would nevertheless play it. Honestly, the games seem pretty good despite those weird things roaming around the map.

The third episode is already in the works

While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make its way to the PlayStation 5 console next year, Square Enix has already started working on the third game. This game is in development as the final installment of this trilogy. It is said to be the game that would wrap up the story of Cloud and Sephiroth.

The game does not have a launch date yet or even a hint of a launch date, but given the amount of time it took for Rebirth to come after Remake, fans are in for a long wait. Here’s hoping the developers learn their lesson with the Whispers and leave them out of that game at least.
