As players progress through the game, more side quests become available, some of which are initiated by interacting with non-playable characters (NPCs).

One such quest is Payback, which becomes accessible once Clive completes all three Letting Off Steam sub-objectives as part of the Out of the Shadow main quest. Completing the Payback side quest rewards Clive with a unique item, the “Cid’s Goblet” Curiosity, necessary to unlock the For the Hoard trophy.

How to get the Cid’s Goblet Trophy in Final Fantasy 16?

To embark on the Payback side quest in Final Fantasy 16, Clive must interact with his Reading Table and select the “Off the Record” option. This action triggers the appearance of a letter from Gaute, urgently requesting Clive’s assistance with some ledgers. Accepting the quest, Clive can proceed to The Mess and have a conversation with Gaute in person.

Gaute reveals that an oversight has led to The Hideaway owing five million Gil to Martha, Isabelle, and Charon. Luckily, Otto has a solution. He provides Clive with two Star Rubies and assigns him the task of delivering one to Martha and the other to Isabelle, while Gaute takes the third to Charon.

To deliver the second Star Ruby, Clive can utilize fast-travel to Northreach, make his way north through the castle’s gates, and follow the road northeast to The Veil, where Isabelle awaits. After interacting with her, Isabelle initially refuses the Star Ruby but changes her mind when Clive mentions Cid.

Returning to The Hideaway, Clive heads back to The Mess to inform Gaute of the successful delivery. Upon learning that Charon declined Gaute’s Star Ruby, Clive takes it upon himself to hand it over.

Making his way back to the Boarding Deck and proceeding north into the Main Deck, Clive locates Charon standing in the stall to the right of The Black Hammer. Engaging in conversation with her, Clive faces initial resistance, but with persistence, Charon eventually accepts the Star Ruby. Once the scene concludes, Clive is transported back to The Mess, where Otto commends him for fulfilling the task.

Following an emotionally charged cutscene revolving around Cid and Otto’s friendship, Clive receives valuable rewards. These include 25 Wyrrite, 50 Sharp Fangs, and 1 Meteorite, which can be used for crafting and upgrading gear. Additionally, Clive obtains Cid’s Goblet, a Curiosity item that can be examined at The Wall of Memories within Clive’s Chambers.
