The Final Fantasy devs believe tailoring an NPC to meet the needs of the players will lead to better gameplay and increased player satisfaction. Furthermore, the NPC will use behavioral and coaching models to achieve its goals. This attempt from Square Enix will surely make the gameplay more fluid as NPCs will become not be set to making the same actions again and again.

The patent also gave an example of its working. It read, “The gaming session is a “fighting session” during which the virtual fighter carries out actions, within the gaming environment 8, against the opponent character. These actions are carried out in accordance with the behavioral model 100 associated with the virtual fighter. The behavioral model 100 will have been adapted by player 1 during one or more prior coaching sessions.”
