These new remakes of Final Fantasy VII have been a long time coming. They even showed off a trailer back in 2005 during a PlayStation 3 showcase. They denied the fact that it was in development. However, they later announced it in 2015, and Final Fantasy VII Remake launched in 2020 for PlayStation 4 and in 2021 for PlayStation 5. The second episode in this series of remakes is about to launch, and it brings much more than the basic story to fans.

The game’s producer, Yoshinori Kitase, recently talked to Ruliweb.com. During the interview, he discussed the gameplay and new content in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. When the interviewer asked him about the Segway that the game’s protagonist, Cloud, was seen riding recently, he revealed that it is called Wheelie in the game. He stated (translated to English), “It’s called Willie. It is a device that can only be ridden at the resort called Costa del Sol, so please use the chocobo when exploring the world map. There are also several mini-games that can be played while riding a wheelie.”

Then he talked about mini-maps, where he said, “this time various mini-games can be enjoyed on the world map and in other villages.” He further added, “free exploration on the world map is very important in ‘Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’. However, a world map where you just run around would be boring, so I prepared a lot of mini games. Of course, you can just enjoy the main story without worrying about the minigames. Gamers can choose what they want to enjoy.” He then revealed that amongst all the mini-games in this upcoming RPG, he himself is most fond of the Trading Card Game.

There’s no news on a third part in the Final Fantasy series, yet

Kitase was also asked about the next installment in the trilogy. He replied by saying that it is difficult to discuss the sequel at the moment. But he also suggested that all the knowledge that the team has gained from developing Rebirth would definitely be put to use while developing the third one.

It must be noted, though, that rumors have already started dropping in on the final installment. A recent rumor suggested that the game was tentatively titled Reborn and had started development. But given how long it took Square to bring this one after Remake, fans might be in for a long wait.
