Microsoft’s acquisition of Call of Duty’s Activision is edging closer as time passes. We might end up seeing Call of Duty and the sequel to Sekiro in the Xbox Game Pass libraries soon. And as per every hardcore Xbox fan out there, this would cure the platform of its “lack-of-exclusives” ailment.

Microsoft recently released a bunch of documents that have revealed some really telling information about the company’s self-awareness regarding the state of its exclusives.

In response to CMA’s issue statement, Microsoft revealed that its merger with Activision is pro-competitive. As a reason, they suggested that Microsoft is aware that Sony’s exclusives are better in quality than Microsoft’s exclusives.

“In addition to being the dominant console provider, Sony is also a powerful game publisher,” read the response from Microsoft. “Sony is roughly equivalent in size to Activision and nearly double the size of Microsoft’s game publishing business.”

Over the years, many gamers have suggested this notion. Xbox fans, on the other hand, have stated that games like Gears of War, Forza Horizon, and Halo, etc are as good as Sony’s games. Now, whatever might be, we have seen one thing for sure. PlayStation exclusives sell millions of copies at launch, so quality aside, they have a huge pull amongst the masses.

Microsoft’s focus has shifted to Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft in recent times has focused more on providing a universally accessible service. Which lets players access their games anytime, anywhere through a single application. Xbox Game Pass has in fact proven a success, but players have always cited the lack of fleshed-out big-budget experiences on Game Pass.

Only big games that players get to see on the game pass are either older titles or are Microsoft’s own first-party titles, which again boils down to games like Halo or Gears of War, which Microsoft agrees are no match in quality to PlayStation exclusive games.

With this acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft hopes to remedy this. They would have a bunch of new properties to work on. And above all, they would have Call of Duty, and we all know the reach of this series. Other than these games, a number of Xbox Studios are currently working on some much-awaited titles such as the new Fable game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Avowed, Starfield, and The Outer Worlds 2.
