The N64 was full of exciting games that never got a follow-up. One such game was Perfect Dark, a first-person shooter developed by Rare. It then moved to Microsoft and became an Xbox game as the company purchased Rare. During the Game Awards 2020, Microsoft and developer The Initiative announced a new game in the series that is currently under development and recently got a brand-new member.

A developer who previously worked on one of PlayStation’s most successful titles has recently joined The Initiative. Moreover, they have instantly started working on Perfect Dark, leaving fans all hyped up for the game.

Eric Medina is a very well-known figure in gaming. He was part of Sony’s first-party PlayStation studio, Sucker Punch, for a long time. For those unaware, Sucker Punch is the studio that developed franchises like Sly Cooper, Infamous, and Ghost of Tsushima for PlayStation. And all of those games were no doubt brilliant too. Eric Medina played a role in the development of a few of those games. He was a senior animator for Infamous Second Son and First Light, and he was the additional art director for Ghost of Tsushima.

After working on all these ground-breaking titles, he has now gone and joined The Initiative and will be working on Perfect Dark. This game has been in development for at least three years now, and his inclusion would mean that this game would get a taste of Sucker Punch’s style of game-making, too.

There’s no saying when it will be out, as its development has already gone way beyond what a normal game’s development should. After three years of development, The Initiative is still hiring new members for its team.

While not much is known about the Perfect Dark reboot, as reported by VGC, Microsoft’s Matt Booty, in a Q&A in 2022, talked about Perfect Dark, where he stated,

“How we make games is evolving.” He further added, “The idea of a single team under one roof really doesn’t happen that often anymore. I’ll use an example – our Perfect Dark team down in Santa Monica, The Initiative. So, we just did this big partnership with Crystal Dynamics, and I read online, ‘oh, this must mean there’s a problem or something’ – it’s quite the opposite, right? You’ve got this veteran team at Crystal Dynamics, a big AAA team with over 100 people that becomes available. Of course we want to work with them, particularly if they’ve made a game like that before.”

While the former partial Art Director has joined Perfect Dark, elsewhere, a Ghost of Tsushima sequel is rumoured to be happening as well.

Sucker Punch is supposedly working on a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima is also getting a sequel if all the rumors are to be believed. The first game was, in itself, a very beautiful homage to Akira Kurosawa’s cinematic work. It has to be seen how the developers end up expanding that idea in the sequel.

Earlier this year, an industry insider tweeted that Ghost of Tsushima 2 would not feature at the PlayStation showcase, which leaves the door open to the possibility that the game could be in development.

There’s also a movie for the fans of the games to be hyped for, which is being made by none other than Chad Stahelski, the filmmaker famously known for the John Wick series of films.
