Former Tomb Raider Publisher Is Working on Multiple Games, Including a Brand New IP!

Since 1996, the Tomb Raider brand has swayed millions of people across the globe. It’s because of the most iconic entries that have released so far, featuring the one and only Lara Croft – the famous female protagonist. The franchise has had three trilogies: the original trilogy, the legend trilogy, and the survivor trilogy. Square Enix has published the majority of the titles in this saga. However, it won’t be the case in the future.
Last year, Embracer Group purchased the rights to the Tomb Raider IP featuring Lara Croft. For years, Square Enix was the home of the iconic character. But everything changed when Embracer acquired the IP for $300 million. Right now, the team of Square Enix is focusing on other major projects, which were also recently confirmed. In case anyone needed to keep track of events, a few days ago, the Japanese developer unveiled its financial results for 2022. The report featuring various figures also contained a crucial update regarding many upcoming games.

Speaking about the financial report from last year, the company revealed that it didn’t receive the expected results. The numbers were something other than what the publisher was hoping for. There was a drop in the sales of its games for the period ending December 31st, 2022.

However, Square Enix is willing to continue working on fresh titles. Going by what the Japanese developer mentioned in the financial report, it looks like it’s already busy with new games. According to the official report, the publisher is currently working on “multiple new titles”. Plus, there’s a brand new IP in the works as well. Sadly, this is the only intel that is available right now for this specific title.

Speaking of what’s coming this year from the former Tomb Raider publisher, two games are scheduled to arrive later this month. One is Theatrhyhtm Final Bar Line, while the other title is Octopath Traveler II. Both of them are going to release for the Nintendo Switch console.
It will be interesting to see what kind of a new IP Square Enix comes up with. Meanwhile, those gamers who are fond of its previously launched Tomb Raider games can enjoy them on various platforms. Entries from the rebooted trilogy like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are available in different digital stores.
