When it comes to new games, one can barely contain excitement as release approaches. Even when release is only a few minutes away, the sheer tension is palpable. It was a similar situation before the release of Fort Solis, a highly anticipated title slated for an August 22 release. However, when the day of release came, fans and reviewers who played the game portrayed a review of the game that was hard to digest.

Fort Solis fails to impress the fans

With a cast studded with stars such as Troy Baker and Roger Clark, it is usually safe to assume something big is coming. After all, both of them participated in two of the best narrative experiences in gaming history, The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption 2, respectively.

However, despite their presence in Fort Solis, it failed to impress critics. The game, originally built up as a sci-fi horror, finally came out after lots of wait for gamers today. Once critics got their hands on the game, needless to say, they were disappointed. The game received poor reviews, with Metacritic putting it at a 64.

What is the game about?

What fans found themselves asking was how the characters who once played Joel Baker and Arthur Morgan disappoint in terms of the story. Well, it was not particularly their performances critics are calling into question; it is the story entirely.

It starts out as a promising narrative, with the player taking charge of Jack Leary, a control engineer on Mars in 2080. He receives a distress signal from the nearby Fort Solis and goes to answer it, only to find a pile of corpses at the facility. With this premise, the game sounds quite promising, especially given its setting.

These hopes were quickly spoiled by the lackluster story. Essentially, while there is much to discover, it is only a walking game, similar to Firewatch. While a story does help, what makes a horror title enjoyable is fighting an enemy. If not fighting an enemy, even escaping from one, such as in the Alien game.

Critics thought getting the collectibles might tell a different tale, yet it did not yield different results. The game’s story simply feels bland. Fans and critics believe devs should have invested in the story, as much as they did in the cast.
