Fortnite is finally giving up on China after two years of testing; its servers will go offline on 15th Nov 2021. On 1st Nov 2021, Epic games made this announcement about shutting down the operation. The exact reason behind this decision is still unknown.

From 1st Nov onwards, people won’t be able to create a new account in Fortnite and people with existing accounts won’t be able to play from 15th Nov onwards. Speculations suggest the reason for the closure is China’s strict gaming regulations.

The company is facing difficulty operating in the Chinese market. Over the last few years, the Chinese gaming regulations have been getting stricter and more restrictive.

The Government reduced the gaming hours from 10 to 3 hours per week. Decisions like this have made the survival of video game companies very difficult in the Chinese market. It’s not just the gaming timings that are concerning, it’s also the in-game content.

Gaming companies can’t show excessive violence like blood and dead people in their games. Failing to comply with these regulations, Player Unknown’s BattleGround was also banned in Sep 2021.

The Fortnite game that the Chinese audience enjoys differs from its original version. The game doesn’t have in-game purchases or micro-transaction options. In fact, devs have changed all the skins that involved “skulls.”

The entire Fortnite game went through heavy modifications to get its release in China.

As of now, there’s no other news from the Epic Games; however, fans can expect some news in the coming few days.
